TuringTrader's portfolios have regular rebalancing schedules with some requiring to rebalance daily, and others on a weekly, or monthly basis. These schedules are easy to follow and you will always have enough time to place your orders, but there are a few important details to keep in mind about the timing of the available data and possible changes.
Rebalancing Schedules
Portfolios that are supposed to rebalance
- daily might not do so every day
- weekly typically do so over the weekend, with only a few exceptions
- monthly do so after the last trading day of the month
We assume that market orders are submitted while the markets are closed and that they will be filled when the next time the markets open.
Rebalance Timing
Our backtests rely on various credible data sources. To provide you with updated portfolio allocations as early as possible, we can't wait for all final data. Instead, we use interim releases for the initial site updates and run two additional updates later each night to include later updates.
The timing looks roughly like this :
- 4 pm (New York, USA): U.S. stock exchanges close
- 9 pm (New York, USA): Preliminary target allocations available
(Check TuringTrader's site status for details) - 11pm (New York, USA): Intermediate update available
- 4:00 am (New York, USA): Final site update available
- 9:30 am (New York, USA): Rebalancing orders fill
So you have plenty of time to take the necessary steps, and there is no rush to be at your desk at a specific time of the day.
However, we receive most of our data from Norgate, an Australian provider of high-quality daily data. We collect these data after the markets closed and are dependent on Norgate's update schedule. Without accurate data, any backtest is bound to fail. Therefore, keep in mind, that there might be some changes in the final target allocation.
